In partnership with Alzheimer Scotland, provides a dedicated research environment for investigating causes, treatment, and care, and manages the dementia Brain Tissue Bank.

Alzheimer Scotland Dementia Research Centre (ASDRC) 

An interdisciplinary and highly diverse research group exploring the experience of living with dementia. 

Edinburgh Centre for Research on the Experience of Dementia (ECRED) 

Aims to address the challenges associated with current and future electronic system design, including its applications to care and medical imaging and sensing.

EWireless (Embedded Mobile, Wireless, and Wearable Sensor Systems) Research Group 

Specialises in single-molecule and super-resolution imaging to delve into the intricate complexities of biology, with a focus on neuroscience and neurodegenerative disorders. 

The Edinburgh Single-Molecule Biophysics Group

A multi-disciplinary research programme and PhD Academy combining research across multiple fields (medicine, engineering, informatics, data and social sciences) to improve the quality and sustainability of care and reduce inequalities in care provision. 

Advanced Care Research Centre (ACRC)

A globally leading, patient-centred, integrated care-research facility delivering drug trials, making discoveries and improving quality of life for people living with neurological conditions including Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease, Parkinson’s and early onset dementias. 

Undertakes fundamental and clinical research into major neurological disorders and plays a key role in translating research findings into benefits for patients. 

Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences

Carries out research at molecular, cellular, systems and behavioural levels to understand fundamental mechanisms and pathways relevant to brain and body function in health and disease. 

Centre for Discovery Brain Sciences

Undertakes research on stem cells, disease, and tissue repair to advance human health by developing new treatments for major diseases including cancer, heart disease, liver failure, and degenerative diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's, and Vascular Dementia. 

Centre for Regenerative Medicine

Works to improve the understanding of how blood vessel diseases can damage the brain, leading to stroke, cognitive decline, dementia, and mobility problems. 

Row Fogo Centre for Research into Ageing and the Brain

Aims to collect, classify, and curate a retinal image research resource in Scotland, supporting research into age-related macular degeneration (AMD), chronic eye diseases (e.g., glaucoma) and biomarker discovery (e.g., Alzheimer's disease). 

SCONe (Scottish Collaborative Optometry-Ophthalmology Network e-research)

Based in the Edinburgh BioQuarter, the Edinburgh branch of the Dementia Research Institute researches how different cells, systems and processes work together to keep our brains healthy as we age, and what goes wrong to trigger neurodegenerative disease. 

UK DRI at Edinburgh

Collaboration between Eisai, Gates Ventures, Health Data Research UK (HDR UK), LifeArc and the University of Edinburgh, exploring the use of data and digital solutions related to the prediction, prevention, management, and treatment of dementia.

Edinburgh Innovations: NEURii

Connects a community of 600 brain and mind researchers at the University of Edinburgh, encompassing the study of the human brain from conception to old age, in disease and in health.
